Chappatte’s cartoons appear in The International New York Times (formerly known as the International Herald Tribune). Chappatte also works for the daily Le Temps, in Geneva, and the Sunday edition of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung, in Zurich.
In the past, he was an illustrator for The New York Times Book Review and worked for Newsweek International. Publications include: Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Courrier International, Khaleej Times, Jeune Afrique, Yahoo France.
Graphic journalism is Chappatte’s other passion: from Gaza to the slums of Nairobi, from cluster bombs in South Lebanon to gang violence in Guatemala, he has been reporting in cartoons since 1995. One of his stories was turned into an animated documentary, “Death in the field” in 2011. Chappatte has published several cartoon books, and has developed animated editorial cartoons.
He received the 2011 Thomas Nast Award from the Overseas Press Club of America for best cartoons on international affairs – the first non-American to receive this prize.
